12 Must-Haves When Moving
An Essential Guide
So, I am in the middle of a move and am making a list of items I will purchase when moving to my new home. If you are moving and need to get a checklist of all the items you may need… you can find it here.
Moving Kit
Trust me, you never have enough boxes. Running back and forth and trying to get more boxes to fit your things will ruin your precious time to pack, work, and manage kids. Get a pack of boxes, and don’t depend on your amazon box leftovers. Amazon boxes were made for one or two specific items. Your entire house wasn’t it.
Save time packing your dishes with these foam sleeves. This was by far one of my favorite must-haves when moving! Made my kitchen packing with plates, bowls, and glassware easy. Also, order bubble wrap in advance 2-3 rolls for a 3-bedroom home or a 3-5 for 4+ bedrooms.
Cleaning Products
I am a bit of a minimalist when it comes to cleaning products. I like products that will last, work in multiple rooms, and are safe for my son. I picked this Seventh-Generation cleaner in a 4 pack—one for the kitchen and each of the bathrooms.
Tea Towels- I LOVE tea towels! 7+ years ago I made the switch. While I keep paper towels for kitchen needs like degreasing food, I clean counters, spilt food, and dust around my home with my tea towels. I have a bucket in my laundry room where I discard the used ones, and wash them with my bath towels weekly. This has reduced my paper towel usage to maybe 5 rolls of paper towels per year. And that may be an overestimate. Get them!
Finally trash bags. I buy a 2-year supply. When moving especially despite throwing away and donating items, you will still accumulate a lot of trash. Have extras. You will thank yourself.
Bathroom Essentials
Do NOT move your old toilet brush from one house to the next. That is a good way to get bacteria on your boxes, and items going to a new house. Save yourself the grossness.
I additionally included toilet bowl cleaner, because it’s just a necessity. Along with a clean shower liner and new shower curtain rings.
Paper Towel Holder
If you’re like me, I need clean kitchen counters with as little clutter as possible. In my past home, I purchased this paper towel holder and LOVED it! It stayed stuck for over two years and showed no signs of wear and tear. They have it in lots of finishes too! So when I moved, it stayed attached to my old home, so a new one has made it to my list!
Trash Can
I got this motion sensor trash can about a month before we moved. It was a purchase I had wanted to delay, however, our old can was rusting… not a good look when selling your home. So this is still front of mind for me. Buy a new kitchen trash can when you move. You won’t have to worry about old dents or scratches or it getting damaged in the move.
